So I haven't read a historical fiction book in a bit I usually have a hard time following along and have a hard time connecting to this but from the very start this book had gotten me intrigued that I just wanted to know more about it. I am a fan of mystery novels which could be why it was easier to get sucked into and this book was a pretty good gruesome at times mystery book. What I did find refreshing is that it didn't include a romance at all, I'm so used to reading romance or mystery / romantic suspense novels that are heavy on the romance in between solving crimes and this book did not need that all. I really enjoyed reading this book, I read it as a ARC ebook but I'm going to have to have a physical copy of this book to add to my library so I can share it with others who might enjoy and get to reread it again because it really is a good book.

Ever since I seen Phantom of the Opera on Broadway as a six grade trip decades ago my love of the story and musicals started. Surprisingly enough after all these years seeing the musicals and movies way too many times to count and I'd never even picked up the book! (Yea I know shame on me) For one it wasn't until early last year I got into reading classics and I was a bit worried that it would change my view on the story because of what it was based off of or how disappointing would it be if I didn't end up liking the book? I ended up listening to the audio book and I loved it! After that I went on a Phantom of the Opera kick getting hold of whatever retelling I could get my hands on. By then one after the other I read at least 3 or 4 retelling and this one was the last to get hold of and I burnt myself out by then and didn't end up picking this book up.

After reading this book I want to kick myself for doing that marathon because it sort of forced me into not being into reading this book. I just managed to notice this book and based off the description was curious what was in store for this book.

I can absolutely say that I loved this book! I loved the characters and what the author did in making them truly unique. This book could've easily fallen into being over played and this book was unique in almost every way. There are clear differences where the author drawn similarities stuck to the basic story line but I'm amazed how this book truly turned out. This book was magical in every way and stunning. That goes to say I loved it!.

So this book is based off on a modern day time but with people using the lavish looks and items of the past.Danica witnesses the young king murder someone. Rather then aiding her mother managed to use Danica as a pawn to marry off to the young king when shes is of legal age and this murder issue will just disappear. Danica knows her time will soon be up and will do everything she can to get out of this situation but needs the funds to get out. That's where Glitter (a drug) comes into play if she's able to sell enough she could be free from the life chosen for her.

This was one of those cover buy kind of things. I thought this book had a beautiful cover so I ended up getting it. Mind you never read the description, I probably wouldn't had picked up this book if I had known what this book was about. Honestly it took a bit of time for me to get into this book was because of the drug dealing aspect. I'm not really into that kind of thing, but I've been trying to branch out that the cover is beautiful so this would be me taking a chance. 

Overall I thought that this book was pretty good, the characters were interesting. Poor Danica just wants to live her life, but with her mothers selfish agenda and that d-bag king, things don't look good for her. I didn't like her father too much he had let himself be consumed by his addiction trading one for another, maybe he could've came to her aid when her mother was coming up with her schemes. Like I would like to describe more but hard to do without spoiling the book. There is only one point of view, which I'm not really a fan of. I'm more of a multiple POV type of person simply because I like to know the movies of whats going on in the minds of those characters surrounding the main one. The storyline was unique I mean I can't recall anything like this. It was a bumpy start for me, I being that this is a duology I am intrigued enough to want to see what is in store for the next book.

This months OwlCrate theme is Steam Punk and out of the 3 months of using this service I have to tell you that this box is my favorite and I had use for each and every item in this box. As for the book, it was called Everland by Wendy Spinale. So here's what I got:

I wish I got a better shot of that ring but its really cute, it based of The Infernal Devices. It was designed by Sparks Emporium.

Then there's the Skeleton Key by Crystal Compass Designs. Soon as I saw that necklace I put it on straight away. It has a long chain and its super cute and I loved it.

The other key item, is from Elope. It's labeled Metal Accessories, its a broach or pin. I'm thinking I might put it on a hairclip because I don't use pins much but I'm in love with that key and it needs to be used and shown off. The details are incredible.

Some other items that came in the box was the steamp punk inspired nails wraps. I don't use them often and find them pricey in general and was glad to have gotten them in this box. Also there is like 2 weeks worth of nail wraps, so basically when I instantly ruin on while putting on or so I can go for the back ups which is handy. Also there is a link to how to put them on so that's helpful.

Temporary Flash Tattoos based off the book was also included in the box in the shapes of Cogs, Wings and such. So cute.

The last bookish item recieved was the Art Print by Creative Daffodil Studios as a tribute to J.M. Barrie. Its a Peter Pan inspired print.

Last night I refused to go to sleep until I had finished this book. It was that good.

I loved this book it was so imaginative, fun, and enjoyable. I loved when I can come across retelling, even better if its steampunk another genre I don't really come across. When I do I'm never disappointed. I loved this book. There is so much to love, the characters, the fact that you'll get different point of views from multiple characters including Hook. I thought this was a really great reimagining of a classic. There was plenty of action going on from the very start to draw the readers in. I want write more about this book on why I loved it to much but you should see for your self. Bump it to the top of your TBR list you'll be happy you did.

Review:

Evelyn isn't one for society, dances and other social gatherings. For once in her life things get interesting when her sister Rose, goes missing. She will stop at nothing until she can recover her sister. She will go against her parents will, she would go against what society believes women should be like and do what she has to do to find her sister.

Honestly, I think the cover is what drawn me to check out this book, because otherwise I would've never picked up this book. Plus I have a thing for masks and that cover was just asking me to check out whats inside. Historical type of books aren't really my thing but the description mentioned something about Jane Austen and the fact that these characters have special abilities I thought it might interest me.

I love that this book was really interesting and it really kept my attention. I loved Evelyn's character she's a very strong and well-meaning person. She was loyal and loving that when her sister went missing, she went to look for her personally not waiting for anyone to tell her otherwise. She's quite a stubborn and snarky and I really love that. I love the aspect of the extraordinary abilities, it kept things interesting learning what different characters had. There was so much going on with twists and turns. And that ending to this book was not how I expected it to be. Overall pretty good story I enjoyed reading it and I look forward to seeing what happens next in the next book.

My Thoughts:

Etta was getting ready for her chance to be on stage to play her violin when she heard an odd noise and saw her violin instructor dying on the floor. Suddenly she was thrusted onto some ship going who knows where and told she must find some item her mother had stole or her mother will be killed. Now Etta with the help of Nicholas a fellow time traveler to find the item her mother stole and give it back within a time frame. Meanwhile Etta has her own plans to finding the object, not giving it back, and saving her mother. Now if only she can get this done without getting herself killed...

Time travel is not my favorite subject but I've decided to take a chance and get my hands on this book. There are so many people out there raving about this book and I knew it must be good.

One of the things that I can say that I really love about this book is how it's written. There were times I was so immersed in this book, that the words seems to blend together in my mind and paint a vivid pictures. That goes to say that this book wasn't overly descriptive which would've been too much. It was just descriptive enough to easily imagine how things are, where I was able to fill in the blanks without it being too much. I'm not sure if I'm explaining that right and I hope you understand. What I mean is that there are books that are overly descriptive that it just seems like fluff to extend the story needlessly and make its dull a bit. In my head I would be saying that is this information really necessary? Like does it have anything to what the book is about to help progress it or something like that? Like in the beginning when Etta slapped Wren I could've sworn that I heard the slap. I guess I was just that sucked up into that I can imagine what things looked liked and sounded that I sat there surprised and was like Woah wait a sec I'm way too into the book right now. Either that or a family memember is playing a fight/slap scene on TB just in time, or one of my little sibling just happened to hit one another to cause me some confusion. Regardless this book was well written.

Another thing that I found interesting was the way Etta's mind worked. In some points of the book definitely in the beginning I thought it was interesting how she interpreted things in a musical way. I'm not even sure how to explain that without you readers checking out book, if you read it maybe you would understand what I mean. Plus I don't want to give out spoilers and ruin the book for you.

I loved that there was so much going on that there was never a dull moment for me. There was so much twists and turns going on with each passage there was something else in that world to overcome. I swear it was also hard for me to put the book down. I loved that this book was unpredictable.

I thought that ending was interesting, and unfortunately its a bit of a cliffhanger. Again as much as I would like to talk about that ending I simply can't without spoilers so I'll end my review here. I can't wait to see what is in store for Etta, Nicholas, Sophia and the other characters.

Review:

This was one of those books where I had no clue what the book was about but just went off the cover of the book. Based off the cover it was easy to make assumptions on how the book like being a book based on the past which normally I don't lean towards reading. I just thought that the cover was pretty and eye catching that I knew I had to see what this book was about.

On the to the content. Now that was no way to end the book. There is so much to love about the book, so much going on that there was never a dull moment.The one thing that I didn't like about the book was Eyelets character, she was rather annoying, nosy, and immature for the first half of the book and became bearable later on. Over time through the book I found myself hooked wanting to know what would happen next. Overall it was a pretty great book and I look forwards to seeing more in the next book.

I did enjoy this book. the overall story was interesting and unique. What I loved about this book was that there was the whole mystery about her father and what from then on wondering what her father was doing that caused people to believe he was a mad man. At times this book was gruesome which didn't bother me it just helped paint a more vivid picture of how everything was. The only thing the was a turn off for me was the I guess time setting. Some of the time setting stuff confused me but I took to it really quickly but I don't really like historical fiction much. Overall there was so much going on that keeps the readers guessing that I'm sure many of you reader will like.

Clockwork Prince Review

The Magister and Nate managed to escape the clutches of the shadow hunters and now questions are being raised whether or not a Charlotte could manage to institution.  Now on a dead line the shadow hunters must find the where about of the Magister or at least show some progress of finding him or else the clave might allow the option of another to take over. Secrets, betrayals and love will be revealed.

My Thoughts:

My only warning is not to read this book in public, you'll seem bipolar with the who being sad one minuet then bursting out laughing at something that happened in the book. (Don't say I didn't warn you!)

I loved this second book to The Infernal Devices series (Or is it trilogy?). The book went smoothly lots of things going on to keep one interested. The characters are so well developed that its easy to care for all the characters in this book. Tessa is still my favorite characters she strong, independent, and forgiving (Mostly towards Will with his dang mood swings and her brother). I like that when there's a problem she will put herself out there to help others. I can see why others might think that even after all her brother put her through why would she even brother forgiving him and still love him after everything. Its her family member and even when things go wrong she can't help but forgive and still love her brother after everything she went through.The Clockwork Prince is full of deception, angst and suspense to want to you keep going till the end. I want to say the ending was surprising but then again it was kind of predictable to me.

As for the love triangle this book didn't help with who I would choose to have Jem or Will. Jem is still sweet and predictable, meanwhile Will is smart, loves books, his mood swings are explained in this book so it I can see him being nicer in the next book less hot and cold. Who would you go for? Jem or Will?

My only problem with this series is not being able to get the next book quick enough. I've already ordered the next book from my  local library but it'll take some time to get it. Its pretty much high demand and I guess I'll get it when I get it. Hopefully I get is soon or else I will have no choice but to camp out in the local book store and read the book till I'm through.

Tessa will learn fairly quickly about a whole new world she never knew of where pretty much everything that goes bump in the night exists. With the help of the shadow hunters Tessa will search for her brother and manage to find new trouble.

My Say

Sometimes authors will get too close to making one series like another, same people different name and place but I didn't see it in this. I almost thought it was going to be like The Mortal Instruments because of the love triangle and characters but then ditched that idea because I noticed how unique these characters were from TMI. I like that Tessa pretty much accepts what is, even when everything may seem far fetched and learns to adapt to any situation. I liked how there was never a dull moment and there was always something new to learn about the characters and something interesting going on. I liked that there was unexpected twists and turns and just when I thought I knew what that going to happen I was completely off. I also love that its in a steam punk kind of setting which lately I've been getting into.

If you love The Mortal Instruments series then you'll love this.  

When it comes to choosing a guy it would be hard. Before I would've said sweet ol' Jem would've been the one I wanted only because it would simple, he's pretty straight out. Then there's Will who is complicated, hot and cold and just plain confusing but the way everything is there must be a reason for the way he acts. Another reason I find it hard to choose it because I've read the second book so I know the reasoning behind Wills actions from what little I can remember from it. I'm pretty sure Id be team Switzerland between these two guys because I don't wanna chose either I like both of them maybe Clockwork Princess will the the tie breaker to help me choose between them.

I mentioned before that I was going to do a giveaway for this book. It's only for US residents (Sorry for those who are outside!) and The only thing about this book is that it has one mark.
