Review: Summer Ever After

Summer Ever After by Kortney Keisel

Falling in love is easy. Finding the right guy to spend happily ever after with... that's the hard part.

But I have a foolproof plan. I'm taking the tropes that work in romance books and applying them to my love life.

Only one bed? Never fails.

Caring for someone when they're sick? A classic.

"Who did this to you?" Seals the deal every single time.

So long, loneliness. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

But the more I try to force romance, the more feelings naturally progress with the one man who's off limits: Walker Collins, the guy I've had a secret crush on since 7th grade, not to mention my best friend's older brother.

Dating Walker crosses BFF lines I swore I'd never cross. Plus, he hates Sunset Harbor, and his pro golf career will take him off the island as fast as he came, sending me back to the land of singlehood, loneliness, and broken hearts.

At the end of the day, I don't want to be the fool in my foolproof plan

Jenny's finally ready to settle down and made it her mission to use this summer to find a man using romance book tropes. Walker is her best friend's brother who's in town after an injury and slight issue with his girlfriend to recuperate. Since it's not planning to stay and he's her best friend's brother he's not on the list. But he sure seems to keep running into her while she's on her way to finding love.

There was book tropes all around and it was such a fun read seeing how it all played out. Even the whole off limits bff brother trope was a main one. I loved watching as we came across every dating antic she was trying to pull off miserably and finding themselves in trouble a few occasions and even if this book was easy to predict this book was plenty entertaining to read anyways. Now I wanna get ahold of the next books.

Also I want to point out that I did get a hold of the audiobook and it really made the experience of reading this all the more better. The pacing was fine the actors were good and overall when it came to the audiobook portion it really enhanced my reading experience.

PublishedOctober 26th 2021 by Big Dog Books, LLC
Known as the team loner, Riggs Nadeau gives his all on the ice, but nothing extra off it. A beautiful stranger is about to cause chaos in his very structured world.

As a professional hockey player, people think I live a charmed life. On the surface, I do. But they don’t know the horrors of my childhood, or the real reason that I have custody of my seventeen-year-old sister, Janelle. And that’s exactly the way I like it. They may think I’m a prick because I don’t like to share, but that’s fine. They don’t know me, and they don’t need to.

In an effort to help Janelle get settled in Phoenix and stay out of trouble at school, I set her up with a job at Clarke’s Corner, the local bookstore owned by the girlfriend of a teammate. It’s there that she makes friends with Veronica Woodley, the extremely annoying, arrogant, money-hungry divorcee who I don’t want anywhere near my sister. Janelle insists I’m completely wrong about Veronica, but I refuse to accept that. I have to keep reminding myself that that the gorgeous blond with legs for days is off limits.

Through a series of events, I start to see Veronica for what she really is—an amazing woman who has survived her own hell to come out even stronger. I have to admit, we’re more alike than not and the attraction between us burns hot.

Maybe I was all wrong about my ability to love and commit, but when the past comes back to haunt me, can I be the man that Veronica, and Janelle, deserve?
Professional hockey player Riggs got custody of his teenage sister and things aren't going as smoothly as he hoped. To keep her busy an out of trouble he gets his sister to work at a book store which seems to be working better then expected. Problem is she seems to be getting close to Veronica who seems to have landed herself a cash cow when divorcing her ex which seems a bit sketchy. While tryin to keep them apart Riggs learns that there is more to Veronica then his assumptions.

This was a pretty great book I really enjoyed it. I loved seeing how caring Riggs was while you can see his guarded from those around him you can see how much love and care he has for his sister. With a past like his and his younger sister no wonder they both are a bit guarded and seen as a bit of trouble. Then there is Veronica who is also seen in a different light but there are reasons and I liked seeing Riggs proven wrong but also seeing them fall for one another. I loved seeing the siblings open up more to eachother and try harder to work with one another Riggs sister just wasn't another bratty teen and it was interesting seeing how they worked things out. Overall this was a pretty great book I really enjoyed reading it.

The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai

Pages: 387
Published August 6th 2019 by Avon
Alisha Rai returns with the first book in her sizzling new Modern Love series, in which two rival dating app creators find themselves at odds in the boardroom but in sync in the bedroom.

Rhiannon Hunter may have revolutionized romance in the digital world, but in real life she only swipes right on her career—and the occasional hookup. The cynical dating app creator controls her love life with a few key rules:

- Nude pics are by invitation only

- If someone stands you up, block them with extreme prejudice

- Protect your heart

Only there aren't any rules to govern her attraction to her newest match, former pro-football player Samson Lima. The sexy and seemingly sweet hunk woos her one magical night... and disappears.

Rhi thought she'd buried her hurt over Samson ghosting her, until he suddenly surfaces months later, still big, still beautiful—and in league with a business rival. He says he won't fumble their second chance, but she's wary. A temporary physical partnership is one thing, but a merger of hearts? Surely that’s too high a risk…
Rhi is a creator of a pretty successful dating app and looking to expand. Unfortunately she finds that her ex Samson is one of the people who own that company and isn't thrilled especially since he ghosted her after they were paired and things were really looking good. Now with a second chance looming Samson isnt going to pass up that chance. Meanwhile Rhi will do what she can to convince his aunt to merge their matchmaking company.

Not sure what took me so long to pick this book up. Once I started I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed seeing the book play out. Rhi was such a strong confident women who knows what she wants and does what she to get what she needs. I loved seeing the second chance at a relationship between the two. When it came to Samson ghosting her it was interesting finding out the reason and you can't help but hope things will work out because there was a actual reason for it and at the moment of it happening a relationship wasn't going to be the first thing in his mind. It was interesting seeing the process of what Rhi went through to see about getting to merge companies and seeing how eccentric Samson's aunt was. Overall this was a pretty good book I really enjoyed it.

Review : Dax

Dax by Sawyer Bennett

(Arizona Vengeance, Book #4)
Release Date: July 9, 2019
The Arizona Vengeance is killing it on the ice. But one player can’t seem to keep his eye on the puck—all thanks to the woman he just married to save her life.

My name is Dax Monahan and hockey is my passion. And if you want to succeed in this sport you have to bust your ass 24/7. I’ve never had a hard time focusing on my career, but when my past comes knocking, no amount of training can prepare me for what lies on the other side of the door.

Regan Miles was always like a sister to me. When a shared tragedy brings us face to face after several years, I’m shocked to see just how much she’s changed. Gone is the shy, awkward little girl that always used to chase me and her brother around. Instead, I’m faced with a gorgeous woman who makes it damn hard to concentrate on anything but her.

Turns out, she’s in trouble, and the only way out is to get married.

I surprise myself when I tell her to marry me. Order her, actually. And most shocking of all, she doesn’t even hesitate before saying yes.

So it’s settled. We’re getting hitched and she’s moving to Arizona with me. All platonic, of course.
The catch?

I never knew I’d fall so hard for my best friend’s little sister.
Amazon | B&N | iBooks | Google Play | Kobo | Paperback | Audible

Dax is a hockey player has never seen Regan as anything but a little sister being her brother is a friend of his. When Regan's brother passes away she is left to pick up the pieces. It's been awhile since they've seen eachother and its obvious to Dax that Regan has grown and has issues to deal with that's hard to face just by herself. That's when he proposes they get married only for convenience to help her out but of course there is an attraction between the two that can cause issues.

If you love a good friends to lovers romance book then your going to want to get your hands on this book. Regan was clearly overwhelmed with things in her then her brother dies tragically and Dax was there for her and I loved seeing how that played out. I loved seeing the chemistry and connection between these two and things get pretty steamy at times. This is the type of book that when you start your not going to want to put down. Trust me when I say this is a really great book and your not going to want to miss this. If you also get the chance check out the previous books as well, they also feature the other team mates and their HEA and you get bits and pieces of appearances from times to time which is nice to see what goes on after. I can't wait to see what's in store for the next team player Tacker after hearing bits of what he's going through I'm curious to see what's next in his story.

Review : Marek

Marek: A Cold Fury Hockey Novel

Sawyer Bennett
Release Date: May 22, 2018
Marek Fabritis is used to delivering blows, not receiving them. But when he gets tipped off by an anonymous email about his ex-girlfriend, the news leaves him ice cold—and it’s not because Gracen Moore is getting married to a total jerk. It’s the fact that Marek has a three-year-old daughter he never knew about. Now he’s going back home, not to play knight in shining armor but to make damn sure that no man takes what’s his. For the first time, there might be something more important than hockey.
Gracen Moore has always loved Marek. That’s why she let him go, so he could pursue a career in the NHL. And that’s why she never told him about Lilly. Only now does Gracen realize that she made an unforgivable mistake. But is that any reason for Marek to crash her wedding and make an epic scene? If the spark that still smolders between them is to be trusted, maybe. Still, Gracen’s not getting her hopes up. Because she knows better than anyone that appearances aren’t always what they seem. . . .

Goodreads Link: http://bit.ly/2kIk6T0

After receiving a email that his ex is getting married and has a child - his child - he rushes on his way to stop the wedding. Unsure of what to do he takes his ex and the child to his house while they work things out. Both are going through problems and has bitterness to work out but they will. Thing is that the old feelings they had once had hasn't seem to gone away and the attraction seems to be simmering between the two. They really need to work out whats going to happen between the two and the child before things get even more complicated.

I had such a good time reading this, pretty much spent my whole morning reading it. I don't even regret it. I loved seeing the attraction between the two. I was very curious about Gracen's fiance and what was going to happen with that whole mess and wondering if the fiance was gonna stir up things. Then I was wondering how things would workout with Marek and his daughter Lily wondering and seeing how they interacted. Overall I thought that this book was pretty good and I really enjoyed it!

Review : Reed

Reed by Sawyer Bennett

 (Cold Fury, Book #10)
Release Date: February 6, 2018
Goodreads Link: Click

Hockey season may be over, but in New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett’s new novel, a Carolina Cold Fury heartbreaker is heating things up off the ice and eager to score with the girl next door.

No one skates like Reed Olson. In the off-season, no one plays like him either. After back-to-back championships, Reed craves a different kind of action. Good thing there’s no shortage of women ready for a summer fling with a sports star. Reed has a specific type—blond, busty, not too bright—and a little black book full of options. But when his bed starts rocking, it’s his unexpectedly sexy neighbor who comes knocking. And the brainy beauty is impossible to ignore.

Josie Ives desperately needs something her celebrity neighbor obviously doesn’t: sleep. His headboard banging against the wall is keeping her up at night—not to mention inspiring some very naughty dreams. Reed is everything she imagined: a little too good-looking, with a body that puts Greek gods to shame. But he’s also funny and charming—a tempting combination. Josie’s the opposite of his type, yet the chemistry between them is undeniable. Their friendship certainly has its benefits, and it’s heating up to be so much more.

Sawyer Bennett’s New York Times bestselling Carolina Cold Fury series can be read together or separately.

So, I pretty much devoured this book. I wasn't expecting to finish this book as fast as I did, I managed to spend the whole day reading this book and I don't regret it. This book was really good and I was pretty much hooked from start to end. I loved getting to know these characters and loved that Josie was such a strong and smart women. I loved that shes not the type to hold back, I loved her whole barbie thing that was going on it was pretty funny to see how she thought. I loved getting to know Reeds character and seeing their relationship progress and I couldn't help but root for the two. It was sad seeing Reeds conflicting thoughts and I just loved seeing how well these two characters worked together. This was such a great book I really enjoyed it and recommend you lovely readers to check it out. If you can though check out the previous books in this series, I've been following along this series from book one and can tell you right now your going to want to check this series out!

Hard Justice by Lori Foster

Genre: Romance, Suspense, Contemporary, Adult, Fiction, Action, Sports

Purchase Link: Amazon | Kobo | BN
Pages: 384
Published March 21st 2017 by HQN Books
Playing it safe has never felt so dangerous…
Justice Wallington knows how to harness his strength and intimidating size—skills he put to good use first in the MMA cage, and now as a bodyguard at the Body Armor agency. But no opponent has ever left him feeling as off balance as his new client, heiress Fallon Wade. Far from a spoiled princess, she's sweet and intriguingly innocent. It's a risk-free assignment, until he's required to fake a relationship with her in order to blend in.
Sheltered from the world after a family tragedy, Fallon longs to experience life—going to bars, dancing, talking to strangers. Not easy with a huge, lethal-looking bodyguard shadowing her every move. Justice seems like her polar opposite, but pretending to be a couple stirs undeniable heat. And when danger strikes again, it's not just her safety in jeopardy, but a passion that's real, raw and absolutely against the rules
Even though I liked this book I had a few problems. One of them being how childish Fallon is, shes supposed to be like 24 and she seems like a teenager. Yea I get that her parents hovered and had reasons but I don't think it excuses her behavior. Even with that I did appreciate that she seems to progress and finally act her age. When I had come across this book it was audio book it was pretty odd hearing the male voice I'm so used to female talking and thought it was entertaining when it came to his impression of what a females voice sounds like, which was funny and kinda distracting to me personally. Would've been nice if there was two voice actors to the audio book would've improved it a bit. Overall the book was over the top but still good I found myself enjoying it. I really want check out the first book now since I didn't notice it was book two until I was deep in and by then I didn't care I was enjoying the book.

Release Day & Review : Roman

Roman by Sawyer Bennett

Genre: Sports, Romance, Contemporary, Hockey, New Adult, Adult, Loveswept
Goodreads: Click
Purchase link : Amazon | Kobo | B&N
New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett steams up the ice all over again as the Carolina Cold Fury hockey team’s hottest bad boy gets his first taste of something good.

In a league full of troublemakers, Cold Fury defenseman Roman Sýkora stands out—at least when it comes to negative publicity. When he’s not chilling in the penalty box, the sizzling Czech skate demon is racking up tabloid headlines for his scandalous behavior with the ladies. But now Roman’s feeling the burn from management to clean up his act, or else. Luckily he’s got an enticing distraction: a fun-loving barista who plays the ukulele and brings out a side of Roman he didn’t know he had.

Lexi Robertson came to Raleigh, North Carolina, to finally meet her father, Brian Brannon, and her half sister, Gray, both of whom work in the Cold Fury’s front office. That’s where she first meets sexy, intimidating Roman—who’s really a big softie at heart. As one relationship takes off, another begins: Brian seems to be clicking with Lexi’s boss at the coffee shop. But when the friction between Roman and her new family heats up, Lexi wonders whether she’s a pawn in their game. Feeling hurt and foolish, Lexi’s ready to quit while she’s ahead. Trouble is, Roman’s not ready to quit on her.

Don’t miss any of Sawyer Bennett’s electrifying Cold Fury novels:
ALEX | GARRETT | ZACK | RYKER | HAWKE | MAX | ROMAN

Lexi just found out on her mothers death bed her fathers information and is set out to find him. Shes the type of person who loves to be around family and she really needs this. So while she gets to know him, there will be a paternity results to wait to see if she is who she says she is. On the other half theirs Roman, the typical bad boy of the team, and he pretty much has his sight set on Lexi.

I enjoyed the book I loved how outgoing she was, she seems to fit in any random situation that came her way. I loved that shes the type of girl who gets what she wants, just like the person who might be her sister. So not only will there be Lexi point of view there will be Roman and the man that could very much be her father (Brian). I really loved getting Brians point of view it was sweet and interesting. Getting to see this older man and how he felt about the dating and paternity and just everything that was around him I just loved. There was just so many characters to love. Then there was the story line which was interesting. The overall story was fantastic, I'm trying so hard right now to keep spoilers out so I'm going to end this book. Just hear me when I say you really should check out this book and the series because I've been following along and they are pretty great.

Review : Top Shelf

Top Shelf by Kelly Jamieson

Genre: Contemporary, Sport, Romance, Hockey,
Goodreads : Click
Pages: 267
Published October 18th 2016 by Loveswept
Purchase Link: Amazon | B&N | Kobo
Whether it’s a clutch goal or a cocktail, nothing beats “top shelf.” In this novel from the bestselling author of the Heller Brothers Hockey series, a fun-loving jock and an ambitious career woman mix business with pleasure.

Not only is Jared Rupp one of the stars of the NHL’s Chicago Aces, he’s also the owner of the Sin Bin, the after-hours hot spot where the whole team hangs out. Lately, Jared can’t take his eyes off the woman he’s hired to give the Bin a more modern feel: a sexy, sophisticated consultant who has carved out a niche updating drink menus. She’s as passionate about her career as Jared is about hockey—and yet he can’t help wondering what kind of cocktail she really wants.

In her line of work, Sidney Frayne is used to guys hitting on her in bars, but Jared gets her hot enough to burst into flames. When he’s wining and dining her, he’s sophisticated as hell; on the rink, he’s a testosterone-fueled powerhouse. Still, Sidney’s bitter divorce taught her to keep her emotions on ice. With her busy schedule—and Jared’s playboy reputation—she’s not sure she’s ready for a fling. Because if she lets Jared into her bed, she just may have to let him into her heart.

Sidney managed to land a job helping owner of the Sin-Bin Jared after an encounter that she gives her brutally honest opinion. Now shes there to help get things straight for Sin-Bin and bring in more cash. The element that makes things complicated though is that both of them had a spark from the moment they met and can't seem to keep the boundary of work and pleasure.

I found myself hooked to this book from the start. I loved the characters and seeing how they dealt with problems that came their way. I loved seeing Sidney in her element when she hung out with her friends. I enjoyed the banter between the main characters and their steamy scenes were pretty hott and it happens plenty of times throughout the book so if your not into that this isn't the book for you. I loved getting that big of backstory with Sidney and getting to understand some of the things that she reacted to that made her relatable and a really good character. But if you enjoy a great book, with a hockey player romance, with a good story line you'll want to pick up this book.

Will their young love be able to survive the storm of teen drama and school spirit called senior year?

Review:

Honestly I don't know what to say about this book. I was hoping for more with that description. I didn't love or hate the book it was ok. It felt dull, there needed to be more to stand out, I feel like I've read this book a dozen different times just different names. The ending was okay, but what did she really like about the dude to want to change her college life for this dude. I wished to know more about the characters in general. I didn't really connect to the characters at all. I just wished that there was more to this book, it was okay.

Andrew knows that she’s off-limits. But something deep down tells him that Jenna’s heart is the one prize he simply has to win.

Review:

It's the holiday season and Jenna is bring her boyfriend to meet the family. As the family gets more festive Jenna's boyfriend begins to show more of his distaste towards the family's tradition. Or it could just be the looks that Andrew a guy she grew up with. Jenna and Andrew grew up together and when something beyond his control ended up with him being under her parents care she couldn't stop thinking about him. THen there was that time in college... Regardless they are practically family and things could get complicated if they get together...

Overall this was an enjoyable holiday read. Perfect for the seasons that are coming up so be sure to put this on your TBR list as well as the previous book apart of the Aces Hockey series. I liked how this book was short enough for me to finish in about 2 hours or so. I loved how even though things were moving quite quickly Jenna had some type of sense and not to move in with him She is a independent women who will settle herself out before moving in with someone. Well written and fun to read, with a bit of steamy scene. I really enjoyed reading this book.
