’Tis the season for ex-Navy SEAL Clayton East to come home for the holidays―even if the mood at home is anything but festive. His father is ill. The East Ranch is in financial trouble. And now it’s on Clayton, the prodigal son, to make sure his family doesn’t lose everything.Headstrong Abby Harper is like a mother to her younger brothers, who she’s helped raise since she was a teenager. Keeping them in line is no small task while she’s also working toward her college degree. And now that one of her brothers has been arrested for stealing cattle at the East Ranch, Abby is at her wit’s end. But there is a silver lining: Clayton East. He believes in second chances, and is willing to give one to her brother this Christmas. Letting beautiful Abby―and the inescapable longing in his heart―off the hook, however, is a whole ’nother story. Could it be that the woman of this local hero’s dreams has been back at home all along?
Clayton is an ex-Navy Seal back home to help his parents out on the ranch finding out that there was something amiss in his absence. The family is not short of alot and seem to be missing a whole lot of cows and their prized bulls that can rake in a ton of thousands. Abby's been taking care of her younger bothers doing what she can, little did she expect to find out that her brother was in jail for stealing cows. Clayton ends up working up a deal with the young boy to work until his debt is paid and hopefully the boy will spill the secrets on who put him up to it and find the missing animals.
This was such an enjoyable book, good for the holidays but not overpowering when it comes to the Christmas theme in it. I have a soft spot for books with cowboys and I love a good holiday book so this book appealed to me. The thing is some authors tend to overdo the Holiday theme where its a bit overwhelming and this book was subtle. I loved the characters, I loved that there was a bit of back story to the character to make the reader love Clayton and Abby's character all the more, I loved the romance that was blooming between and it it gets heating quite a few times. Overall this was a pretty good book, I pretty much devoured this book in a day because its just that good.
