The Grand Central Market Cookbook by Adele Yellin and Kevin West

The Grand Central Market Cookbook by Adele Yellin and Kevin West

Not exactly a novel book review but its a book nonetheless. I'm going to have to be honest, I'm a terrible cook. I either burn myself or the food.

So on first impression the cover isn't exactly stunning but it is bright and eye catching and looks just interesting enough to make a reader / cooker? to stop and take a look at this book

Skimming thought the book I can appreciate the many lovely photographs in this book really showing the culture of Downtown Los Angeles. I also love that there is plenty of quotes from the owners and such about their businesses and their personal story. Then there is the history of Grand Central market that includes interviews, talking about the vendors. Its just a great insight of the culture of that area which I can really appreciate after checking it out.

This book will offer you plenty of food options for any time of the day, shows you how to make multiple sauces and also has a few vegan options. Being the terrible cook that I am I started with something that looked easy enough at my speed and that was the Mini Chocolate Chip Cookies from Valerie Confections. Surprisingly enough there was no casualties and my hands were sparred from another burn mark and at the end of it all with the instruction easy and clear to understand with an illustration of the end result. I will admit I didn't notice till later that I made then a bit too big but they tasted amazing and a friend even tried it and asked for the recipe. I didn't food poison anyone and got a compliment about the cookies so success! Now I have my eyes set on a couple more foods that looked amazing and that watermelon slushie I plan to make tomorrow.

If you are looking for more in a cook book then just recipes that has history, and so much depth in the  book to offers the cultures and information about the vendors then I'd check this book if I were you because I'm so glad to have had a chance to receive this book.
