He is seeking absolution.
Flynn Caldwell has a hero complex and it’s one of the reasons he joined the New York City Fire Department. He has spent his entire professional career trying to atone for that one person he failed to save. Because, if he can do that, then perhaps he can be worthy of love again.
She is seeking escape.
Rowan Page’s life is nothing short of a disaster. Always immersed in trouble, she has only herself to depend on. She’s determined to pull herself out of this mess and make something of her life, despite the hard years she has lived on the streets of New York.
Together, they have the chance to become complete.
Flynn and Rowan’s worlds exist miles apart, but when a chance meeting brings them together, neither of them can deny the instant pull that connects them to each other. What starts as a tiny spark eventually flares into a fire so hot, it refuses to be extinguished.
Both are willing to jump feet first into the flames to see where it takes them, despite the risk of being burned.
" 'Just remember... You don't have to fix everything. It's not your responsibility to save the world.' Fuck if I don't know the truth of that statement, but it doesn't stop me from trying my damnedest anyways."
Rowan grew up with parents who don't care about her, so she found trouble just to get some type of reaction. When that wasn't working she decided to leave home with the parting words of her father saying to never come back once she leave. Her troubles didn't stop there, one day a fire was consuming the house she was staying in and she was trapped. Flynn is a fire fighter with a hero complex and when he save poor ol Rowan he just can't get her off of his mind. When he finds that she has nothing he offers her some help until she can get back on her own feet. Flynn always tries to help the women who are broken and falls for them. In the end it usually ends up with his heart broken.
Another fantastic book by Sawyer Bennett so far I've red 3 of the 5 books to this series and when I find the time, I'll be sure to check them out. I loved this story. I loved the characters. I loved how independant Rowan was, I loved that she was smart enough to let Flynn help her even if she had a lot of pride that made her want to not except his help. I hated that she kept leading Flynn on though I just wanted to reach into the book and smack her, Flynn a great guy and the way she kept treating him was unfair. I loved how supportive and nice Flynns family and friends were to her accepting her as one of them. I loved how caring, understanding, loving Flynn was, he didn't have to help Rowan or accept her dog into his house. I loved the story and it was well written and fun to read. I loved the ending. Everything just felt so complete at the end. A book like this deserves 5 of 5 stars. Highly Recommend!
For those of you who haven't read any of Sawyer Bennett's books the books in this series is a stand a alone so you can read any of the books and not miss a thing.
Authors Take on Rowan Page: Rowan was a bit of a difficult character to write because she does have quite a screwed up past that tends to get in her way of finding her happily ever after. There are probably going to be times you want to shake her, particularly when you see how fabulous Flynn is. But she has a process to work through in order to be able to trust her feelings. The best thing about Rowan is that she wants more… I mean, really craves to have that something special she never thought she was good enough for, so she goes through a lot of internal conflict to get the strength to seek it. It’s quite a journey she takes and she makes a huge transformation on her path to self discovery.
USA Today Best-Selling author, Sawyer Bennett, is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn't have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.
